Hi, I’m Alaine.
I’m an emerging writer based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I write primarily creative nonfiction, exploring themes of grief, memory, motherhood, and family. Drawing from personal experience, my essays often examine loss, love, and the process of rediscovering yourself in the aftermath.
I hold two bachelor’s degrees and a master’s degree from the University of Michigan, where I studied psychology and nursing. I currently work as a healthcare provider at a major health system.
I’ve loved writing since I was young, but like many people, I lost sight of that passion while pursuing my career in health care. After the recent loss of my younger brother to suicide in 2022, I returned to writing as a way to process my grief. In doing so, I not only found a way to honor his memory, but I also rediscovered a part of myself I had long forgotten.
Now, I write creative nonfiction as a way to connect with others, explore meaning, and share the stories that shape us.
You can find more of my work on Substack, where I write The Soft Parts of the World. I welcome opportunities to work with literary publications.
